Create a record for each source
Record the publisher, dataset title, original source URL, version or release date, geographic coverage, reference period and retrieval date. Identify the layer or file actually used rather than citing only a publisher’s homepage.
For a geographic dataset, also record the coordinate system, resolution, boundary version where relevant, method, known accuracy limits and update schedule if one is supplied. Keep unknown fields visible instead of guessing them.
Check the proposed use
Record the intended display, download, analysis or derivative output. Check the actual source terms for that use, including attribution, modification, redistribution and any restrictions stated by the provider.
IFT must not assume that a dataset found online may be copied or published without conditions. A reference to a publisher is not a substitute for recording the applicable licence or written permission.
Use clear permission states
Use a documented state such as ready for the stated public use, restricted, permission pending, unknown or unsuitable for publication. Explain the reason and the evidence supporting the state.
A layer is ready only when its identified terms cover the intended use and the required conditions can be met. If permission is unknown or the proposed use is not covered, withhold that layer from the public output while the question is resolved.
Check evidence quality separately
Permission to use a source does not establish that the information is accurate, current or suitable for a particular decision. Check coverage, missing observations, geographic precision, definitions and the period represented.
A district-level observation must not be rendered as a precise household point. Distinguish an official boundary, a provider’s generalised boundary and an illustrative map. Keep uncertainty and source dates visible.
Protect people and sensitive places
A suitable licence does not replace a privacy and safety review. Remove unnecessary personal information and reduce location detail where publication could identify vulnerable people or expose sensitive places.
Check the combined output as well as the original file. Joining datasets can reveal information that is not obvious in either source alone. Follow the geographic privacy policy before making a layer public.
Read the geographic privacy policy →Maintain the source and release record
Keep a copy or reference to the terms reviewed, the permission decision, required credit, changes made to the data, reviewer and release date. Review the record when a source, licence, boundary or intended use changes.
The current map interface does not confirm that a populated, independently checked source registry or licensed official boundary service is already connected. Information Required: the actual dataset inventory, source terms, permissions, named data owner and review records for each future live layer.
Report a source or permission concern
Email support@indiafortomorrow.com with the page or layer name, source URL and the issue. If you believe a layer should not be public, describe the restriction or risk without attaching a sensitive dataset unnecessarily.
